Merida is a tranquil, cosmopolitan place, offering a variety of attractions, including the cathedral of San Idelfonso, the oldest cathedral on the American continent, and the Palacio de Gobierno, which houses 27 murals illustrating Yucatan's rich history.

The Reef Yucatan is located on one of the prettiest of the few virgin beaches in the Gulf of Mexico, in the area of Nuevo Yucatan, north of Merida's International Airport.
